Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state secretary Bandaru Vijayalakshmi has criticised NSUI leader Neha Bora over her reported comments about Bangladesh. Speaking to national media in the city, Vijayalakshmi said Indian youth should take pride in their own country and its heritage instead of looking to other nations for inspiration. She remarked that people generally feel proud of their own families and argued that the same sentiment should extend to the nation.
Vijayalakshmi added that India’s identity is rooted in the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, its ancient civilisation and the principle of “unity in diversity.” She said that if Neha Bora wished to draw inspiration from Bangladesh, she could consider going there, a remark that formed the sharpest part of her response. Vijayalakshmi also urged young people to look beyond political parties and agendas and carefully assess the statements made by political leaders. She alleged that the remarks in question did not reflect pride in India. Her comments have brought the differing political views on national identity and inspiration from other countries into focus.
