The Karnataka government has taken a significant decision regarding the uniform policy in educational institutions. It has withdrawn the orders issued in February 2022 and introduced new guidelines. Students in government, aided, and private schools, as well as pre-university colleges, are now allowed to wear limited traditional and religious symbols along with the prescribed uniform.
The earlier orders had led to the hijab controversy in the state. As per the latest guidelines, students can wear religious symbols such as turbans, sacred threads, rudraksha, and hijab. However, the government clarified that these should not interfere with discipline, safety, or identification of students.
