BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao has strongly criticized the state government’s handling of major irrigation projects. He wrote an open letter to Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, alleging that heavy motors in projects like Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme are being operated unscientifically. He expressed concern over repeatedly switching the motors on and off, which violates engineering norms.
Harish Rao warned that such practices could cause severe damage due to vibrations, affecting pumps, impellers, and motors.
He questioned whether this was deliberate negligence aimed at blaming the previous BRS government. He emphasized that these motors are designed for continuous operation and frequent interruptions could lead to major losses. He also raised objections over the functioning in multiple packages, including Chandalapur and packages 6, 8, 10, 11, and 12. Urging the government to follow proper engineering standards, he cautioned against playing politics with irrigation projects that are vital for farmers.
