
The nomination process for the second phase of Gram Panchayat elections has concluded, revealing significant trends across Telangana. A total of 91,286 candidates have filed nominations for Sarpanch and Ward Member positions in the polls scheduled for December 14.
Elections will be held for 4,332 panchayats, of which 415 Sarpanch seats have already been declared unanimous. On Saturday, 7,584 Sarpanch candidates withdrew their nominations for various reasons. In five panchayats, no nominations were filed for the Sarpanch post.
In the remaining 3,912 villages, as many as 13,128 candidates are in the fray for Sarpanch positions.
Out of 38,322 notified wards, nominations were not filed for 107 wards, while 8,304 wards were declared unanimous. A total of 10,427 ward member nominations were withdrawn, leaving 29,911 wards going to the polls with 78,158 candidates contesting.
Five panchayats received no nominations for the Sarpanch post:
Nalgonda district – 2
Bhadradri-Kothagudem – 1
Mancherial – 1
Warangal district – 1
Nine districts have more than 500 candidates contesting for Sarpanch seats.
The top contenders:
Nalgonda – 764 candidates for 241 panchayats
Siddipet – 694 candidates for 172 panchayats
Sangareddy – 649 candidates for 229 panchayats
Nizamabad – 587 candidates for 196 panchayats
Medak – 541 candidates for 142 panchayats
Jagtial – 521 candidates for 134 panchayats
Adilabad – 513 candidates for 139 panchayats
Vikarabad – 510 candidates for 155 panchayats
Kamareddy – 506 candidates for 153 panchayats
In Baswapur village of Veldurthi mandal, Medak district, Najma Sultana, wife of Karwan MIM MLA Kausar Mohiuddin, was unanimously elected as Sarpanch. Initially, two candidates filed nominations Najma Sultana and Kasala Indiramma. However, following appeals from villagers and leaders of all parties, Indiramma withdrew her nomination on Sunday, leading to Najma’s unanimous election.
All eight ward seats in the panchayat were also unanimous with only one nomination each.
