The Andhra Pradesh government has simplified the ration card application process to make it more citizen-friendly. What was once a complicated procedure has now been converted into a continuous service, allowing people to apply easily through village and ward secretariats. Separate digital systems have been introduced for new ration cards and modifications, with digital assistants handling the entire process.
For newly married couples, obtaining a ration card has become hassle-free. Applicants only need three documents — Aadhaar cards of both husband and wife, the husband’s old ration card, and a marriage certificate. By visiting the nearest secretariat with these documents, digital assistants will register the details under the ‘Marriage Split’ option. After completing e-KYC and verification by the VRO and Tahsildar, a new ration card will be issued.
The process of adding children’s names to ration cards has also been streamlined. Parents need to submit the child’s Aadhaar card, birth certificate, and their existing ration card details at the secretariat. Once approved by the concerned officials, the child’s name will be added to the ration card.
In addition to new cards and name inclusions, address changes and other services are also being provided through the secretariats. Officials have advised citizens to approach their local secretariats for any clarifications. While applications are accepted throughout the year, the government has fixed timelines for issuing ration cards. Applications submitted between January and June will receive new cards in July, while those applied between July and December will be issued cards in January.
