Bihar is set to get a new Chief Minister soon, with current Deputy CM and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary likely to take charge. JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar will take oath as a Rajya Sabha member on Friday and is expected to attend a meeting with top BJP leaders in Delhi. During this meeting, Samrat Choudhary’s name is expected to be finalized for the Chief Minister’s post.
Nitish Kumar is likely to resign as Bihar Chief Minister on April 14, after which the official announcement of the new CM will be made. Samrat Choudhary may form the new government on April 15. Notably, this will be the first time a BJP leader becomes Chief Minister in Bihar’s political history. Political analysts believe that Nitish Kumar’s shift to Rajya Sabha may reduce his influence in state politics.
Samrat Choudhary began his political journey in 1990. He was elected as an MLA in 2000 from Parbatta constituency as an RJD candidate and served as Agriculture Minister in Rabri Devi’s cabinet. Over the years, he switched parties, joining JD(U) in 2014 and later BJP in 2018. He became Bihar BJP president in 2023 and was appointed Deputy Chief Minister in 2024, marking a steady rise in his political career.
