

Former Union Minister and senior Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy (71) passed away early Today following health complications. He had been undergoing treatment in a hospital for some time and died due to cardiac arrest, his son Subhrangshu Roy confirmed. Political leaders across West Bengal expressed deep shock and condolences over his demise.
A founding member of the Trinamool Congress, Mukul Roy was considered one of the closest associates of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. After emerging as a powerful figure in the TMC, he joined the BJP in 2017 and played a key role in expanding the party in West Bengal. He later returned to the TMC in 2021 and was widely regarded as a master strategist in Bengal politics. Roy had also served as Union Railway Minister during the UPA government and had stayed away from active politics after being diagnosed with dementia in 2023.
