Authorities in Andhra Pradesh have intensified efforts to finalise reservations for the upcoming municipal elections. Preliminary work has reportedly been completed for 17 municipal corporations and 106 municipalities across the state. The reservations are being worked out based on population figures. Mangalagiri and Tadepalli mayoral posts may be allocated to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. Officials are also examining the possibility of reserving the mayoral posts in Rajahmundry and Kurnool for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category.
Meanwhile, Nellore may be included in the general category. The ongoing exercise also involves the proposed allocation of 36 municipal posts to the Backward Classes (BC), 14 to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and three to the Scheduled Tribes (ST). There is also a possibility of providing opportunities for eight women to serve as mayors. The full list of reservations is expected to be released by this afternoon. However, the final allocations are yet to be officially confirmed.
