BJP MP Etala Rajender launched a sharp attack on the Telangana government over the handling of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project during a press conference held at Gayatri Gardens in Secunderabad. He said the BJP was not demanding water storage at Medigadda but was urging the government to pump the Godavari water that is otherwise flowing downstream. Rajender alleged that political considerations should not come at the cost of farmers' interests or Hyderabad's future drinking water requirements. He also urged Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy to take decisions based on technical advice rather than political considerations.
Rajender asserted that he would never compromise on public interest, saying he remained committed to Telangana and its people. He alleged that the government was ignoring genuine concerns raised by experts and the farming community while politicising the issue. Calling for accountability in the alleged Kaleshwaram corruption, he demanded action against those responsible and recovery of public money if any irregularities were established. Referring to threats against him, Rajender said he would continue to speak for farmers and the people of Telangana without fear.
