Government Whip Adi Srinivas strongly criticised Union Minister Bandi Sanjay, accusing him of using religion for political purposes. He said the Bonalu festival was celebrated across Telangana on a grand scale and that the state government had made extensive arrangements. He also said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy personally visited the Secunderabad Ujjaini Mahankali Temple and offered Bonam and silk clothes on behalf of the state government. According to Srinivas, funds were also allocated to temples across the state for Bonalu celebrations.
Srinivas said the Congress is a secular party and that the state government respects all religions. He accused BJP leaders of trying to create divisions between communities for political gains and said using a traditional festival like Bonalu for political purposes was inappropriate. He also claimed that the Revanth Reddy government was developing several temples and restoring ancient temples to protect Hindu heritage. Srinivas challenged Bandi Sanjay to bring funds from the Centre and contribute to further development instead of making political statements.
