Political tensions within the INDIA alliance in Tamil Nadu have escalated over the question of a possible understanding with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Chief Minister Joseph Vijay. While VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan suggested that parties could remain rivals in state politics while continuing as allies at the national level, the DMK has rejected the proposal. The Congress has reportedly expressed support for the idea, further exposing differences among alliance partners.
DMK MP Ganapathi P. Rajkumar criticised the Congress, alleging that it had distanced itself from the DMK for political gains and was now attempting to use the VCK as a mediator to rebuild ties. He also questioned whether TVK, which currently has no representation in Parliament, should be considered a part of the INDIA alliance. Rajkumar maintained that the BJP remains the DMK's principal ideological rival and said rebuilding relations between the DMK and Congress would take time.
