Danam Nagender Verdict Should Be a Lesson for Parties Encouraging Defections – K. Narayana

CPI leader K. Narayana said the court verdict on Danam Nagender’s disqualification should not be viewed merely as a setback for an individual politician. Referring to the Telangana High Court’s disqualification order, which was upheld by the Supreme Court on Thursday, Narayana said the verdict should also serve as a lesson for political parties that encourage defections and provide political support to defectors.

Narayana questioned the celebrations by the BJP and said major political parties should introspect over their respective positions on defections. He also referred to defections from the BRS to the Congress in Telangana and argued that the issue should be viewed from the broader perspective of protecting democratic institutions. Narayana called for stronger laws to prevent political defections and said the Danam Nagender case should become a lesson for the country.
