At the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, the Congress put forward five key demands concerning electoral rolls and transparency in the election process. The party called for complete public disclosure of every major change made to voter lists and sought detailed information and an opportunity to appeal for voters whose names have been removed. It also demanded that political parties receive electoral rolls and relevant data in a simple, accessible format and within a reasonable timeframe.
The Congress further called for an independent and time-bound investigation wherever evidence of serious discrepancies emerges. It also sought greater transparency in critical election-related data and decisions so that no political party has grounds to allege that information is being withheld. The Election Commission, meanwhile, has stated that safeguards including prior intimation, multiple verification attempts, claims and objections, and avenues for appeal are in place to prevent wrongful deletion of eligible voters.
