YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has sparked a fresh political controversy over the massive 15-billion-dollar Google AI Data Center project being set up in Visakhapatnam. The project, considered a milestone for India’s technology and artificial intelligence future, was expected to unite the state in celebration. Instead, it has turned into a political tug-of-war between the ruling coalition and the YSRCP. Initially, YSRCP leaders and their media allies downplayed the project’s importance, questioning its employment potential and environmental impact. This reaction invited strong criticism from citizens and industry experts who highlighted the project’s long-term economic and technological advantages for Andhra Pradesh.
Following public backlash, Jagan Mohan Reddy later claimed that his government had initiated the groundwork for the project by facilitating land and infrastructure during his tenure. However, TDP leaders have firmly rejected these claims, crediting Chandrababu Naidu’s pro-technology vision and international partnerships for attracting Google’s investment. According to analysts, while the project represents a major leap forward for Visakhapatnam’s global tech standing, it has also reignited political rivalry over who deserves credit for bringing such transformative development to the state.
