Tensions escalated within the Congress party during the nomination withdrawal phase, with several incidents of extreme distress reported. In Nalgonda district’s Chandur municipality, Bhutaraju Latha filed her nomination from Ward 9. With multiple women contesting from the same ward, uncertainty over the party ticket triggered distress for her husband, Bhutaraju Venu, who allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide. He reportedly left a note alleging interference by party leaders. Prompt medical attention saved his life.
Similar incidents were reported elsewhere. In Jagtial’s Ward 16, Congress Labour Wing district president Bolli Shekhar allegedly attempted suicide by pouring kerosene on himself after learning that the ticket might be allotted to a recent entrant. Former minister Jeevan Reddy intervened and prevented the tragedy. In Suryapet’s Ward 25, Kodisireesha’s husband, Kodi Siva, attempted suicide at the party district office after the ticket was reportedly given to another candidate. Party workers intervened in time. These incidents have raised serious concerns within the party ranks.
