CPI Telangana State Secretary and MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao alleged that the ruling Congress was interfering in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation’s recognised union elections. Addressing the media at Makhdoom Bhavan in Hyderabad along with Employees’ Union president S. Babu and general secretary Eiduru Venkanna, he questioned the Congress decision to sideline its affiliated Staff and Workers Union (INTUC) and extend support to the Telangana Workers Union (TWU). He also alleged that ministers were working against the Employees’ Union. The Congress has publicly announced its support for the TWU in the upcoming elections.
Kunamneni said the Employees’ Union suspected that the decision could be linked to the issue of merging RTC employees into government service if the TWU wins the election. He demanded that the recognised union elections be conducted freely and democratically without political interference. Employees’ Union leaders announced that they would stage a protest outside the Labour Commissioner’s office on Monday. The RTC recognised union elections are scheduled for October 9, according to recent reports.
