The municipal election process in Telangana has reached its final phase. The elected representatives in 116 municipalities and 7 municipal corporations are set to take oath today, following which the elections for Mayors and Deputy Mayors in corporations, as well as Municipal Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons in municipalities, will commence. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held a Zoom meeting with ministers to review the strategy for the elections and issued clear directions to ensure an upper hand for the Congress party. He instructed in-charge ministers, MLAs and MLCs to remain vigilant and focus particularly on hung municipalities.
The Chief Minister emphasized careful handling of ex officio votes and advised leaders to induct willing Independents and councillors from other parties wherever possible. He stated that Congress has a strong chance in over 25 hung municipalities, though seven to eight places remain challenging, where efforts are underway to secure control. Stressing that every municipality should be treated as a challenge, TPCC chief noted that Congress enjoys a three-vote majority for the Nizamabad Mayor post. Minister Meenakshi also discussed the Jagtial issue with Jeevan Reddy, suggesting priority be given to loyal party members.
