Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has completed his first week in office following TVK’s historic 2026 election victory. Soon after taking oath around May 10, Vijay began his tenure with a series of welfare measures, administrative reviews and law-and-order initiatives aimed at showcasing an active and energetic government. He signed files linked to free electricity promises, launched the “Singapen” women’s safety task force and ordered district-level anti-drug units across the state.
The new Chief Minister also initiated action against TASMAC liquor outlets located near schools and temples. Vijay conducted finance review meetings and proposed a White Paper on Tamil Nadu’s debt situation. During his first Assembly speech, he focused on transparency, youth welfare and social justice. While supporters praised his fast-paced governance style, the administration also faced criticism over certain protocol issues and the temporary appointment of his astrologer as political OSD, which was later cancelled.
