Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy chaired a review meeting on irrigation projects at the Bodhi Pavilion. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and D. Sridhar Babu, Rajya Sabha member Vem Narender Reddy, and senior irrigation officials attended the meeting. Discussions focused on the Thummidihatti barrage, the Dindi project and the Achampet lift irrigation scheme. The Chief Minister directed officials to prepare for discussions with the Maharashtra government on the proposed Thummidihatti barrage. He said Maharashtra’s Chief Minister had recently indicated a willingness to hold talks after October 23. Officials presented details on the potential water availability and the extent of submergence in Maharashtra if the barrage were constructed at a height of 152 metres. Revanth Reddy stressed the need to plan the barrage to provide irrigation to two lakh acres in the former Adilabad district, which includes forested, tribal and underdeveloped areas. He directed officials to prepare proposals and keep all relevant reports, including details of recent meetings held in Delhi, ready for negotiations with Maharashtra.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to allocate 0.5 TMC of water from the Yedula Reservoir to the Dindi project and 0.1 TMC to the Achampet lift irrigation scheme. To facilitate this, he called for alternative arrangements to bring an additional 0.6 TMC of water from Srisailam and Narlapur to Yedula. He said these arrangements would help ensure that water supply for the Palamuru region was not affected. Officials were directed to immediately initiate the necessary works related to pump houses, pumps and associated systems.
