After nearly a decade, justice has finally been served in the brutal murder case of former Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha and her husband Katari Mohan. The shocking incident took place in November 2015, when both leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were brutally killed inside the Chittoor Municipal office. Today, the Ninth Additional District Court in Chittoor pronounced its long-awaited verdict, sentencing five accused to death. Those found guilty include Sriram Chandrasekhar alias Chintu, Govinda Swami Srinivasaiah Venkatachalapathy alias Venkatesh, Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jayareddy, Manjunath alias Manju, and Muniratnam Venkatesh.
According to case details, a long-standing family dispute is said to have triggered the horrifying murders that left the town and political circles in shock. With this verdict, the court has brought closure to one of the most sensational and debated cases in Andhra Pradesh’s political history. It’s extremely rare for five individuals to be awarded the death penalty in a single case, making this judgement a historic one in Indian judicial records.
