Internal differences within the ruling alliance in West Godavari district, which had reportedly remained subdued for nearly two years, are now coming out into the open. Differences over political dominance, protocol issues and strategies for the upcoming local body elections are emerging as key points of contention, according to statements from leaders and cadres of the alliance parties. Of the seven Assembly constituencies in the district, the TDP won four and the Jana Sena three under the alliance arrangement, while the BJP secured the Narasapur Lok Sabha seat. Jana Sena cadres have expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that TDP leaders are asserting influence even in constituencies represented by Jana Sena MLAs. Disputes have reportedly arisen over the distribution of CMRF cheques and the acceptance of petitions from the public. At the same time, Jana Sena and BJP cadres in TDP-represented constituencies have also expressed concerns over what they describe as inadequate political importance.
In Tadepalligudem, differences between Jana Sena MLA Bolisetti Srinivas and TDP constituency in-charge Valavala Babji have become public. Srinivas reportedly challenged that he was ready to resign if his performance was found to be inadequate and also asserted that Jana Sena would not give up seats it could win in the local body elections. In Narasapur, remarks made by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu about Jana Sena MLA Bommidi Nayakar reportedly triggered dissatisfaction among Jana Sena cadres. A pamphlet circulated in the MLA’s name raised questions over government schemes and allocation of funds, though its authenticity could not be independently established from the material provided. The developments have brought the alliance’s internal differences in West Godavari into sharper focus.
