Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Criticising the Centre and the Election Commission over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and voter-list issue, Revanth alleged that attempts had been made to win elections using religion and language. He also alleged the use of agencies such as the ED and CBI and claimed that crores of voter names had now been removed.
Revanth compared the present situation with the British-era use of the Simon Commission and alleged that the BJP was using the Election Commission in a similar manner. He said that while Bhagat Singh fought for the country in the past, Rahul Gandhi is now fighting for people’s rights. Revanth stressed that the issue was not limited to the Congress but concerned the voting rights of people across the country, and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action against the CEC.
