CEC Gyanesh Kumar Should Be Removed – MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy

Bhuvanagiri Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy has made several allegations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and demanded his resignation. He alleged that the BJP-led Central government had influenced the appointment and functioning of the Election Commission. Reddy also referred to changes in the process of appointing the Chief Election Commissioner and said that removing a CEC requires a parliamentary process. He further called for scrutiny by the Supreme Court. The Election Commission’s official website currently lists Gyanesh Kumar as the Chief Election Commissioner.

Reddy also alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and claimed that a large number of voters had been removed. His claim that 13 crore votes were deleted nationwide has not been independently verified. He called for investigations into the Haryana election CCTV footage and alleged irregularities in voter registration in Karnataka’s Mahadevapura constituency. The issue of retaining election-related CCTV and webcasting data for 45 days has previously been raised by opposition leaders, while the Election Commission’s instructions provide for preservation beyond that period when an election petition is pending.
