The Bharatiya Janata Party secured a landslide victory in the recent repoll held in West Bengal’s Falta constituency. BJP candidate Debangshu Panda won the election with a massive margin of over 1.09 lakh votes. The result came as a major setback for the ruling Trinamool Congress, whose candidate Jahangir Khan finished in fourth place despite the constituency being considered a traditional stronghold of the party.
According to election officials, Falta constituency has nearly 2.36 lakh voters. BJP candidate Debangshu Panda secured around 1.49 lakh votes, while CPM candidate Shambhu Nath Kurmi finished second with nearly 40,000 votes. Congress stood third in the constituency. The Election Commission had ordered a rare full repoll in the constituency following protests and demands for security by local voters after disturbances during the assembly elections.
