Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is once again at the centre of a political debate over his foreign visits. The controversy erupted after the BJP shared a video on X, claiming that Gandhi was travelling to Vietnam. The video surfaced amid opposition protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The BJP added a sarcastic caption suggesting that Gandhi was tired of spreading what it described as false claims and was heading to Vietnam for a few days of relaxation. BJP leaders used the post to question his overseas visits.
BJP spokesperson R. P. Singh alleged that Gandhi had gone on a two-month break after his campaign in Bihar and suggested that he might be travelling to Vietnam again. Another BJP leader, Shazia, also criticised Gandhi, questioning his work schedule and foreign trips. The Congress rejected the criticism, arguing that the BJP was unnecessarily turning the Opposition leader’s overseas visits into a controversy. The party said Gandhi travels abroad for professional and political engagements, including interacting with students at Yale University, meeting intellectuals in London and giving media interviews. The claims surrounding the video and the reported Vietnam visit have not been independently verified in the information provided.
