

The BJP has released its list of candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled on April 23, 2026. The party announced 27 candidates on Friday. The list includes several prominent names, with former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan contesting from Mylapore. Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagendran will contest from Sattur.
Union Minister L. Murugan will contest from Avinashi, while Vanathi Srinivasan will represent Coimbatore North. Other candidates include Krithika Shivakumar from Modakkurichi, S. Vijayadharani from Vilavancode and Nagesh Kumar from Thalli. Notably, former state BJP chief Annamalai’s name is missing from the list and reports suggest he may have stayed away due to dissatisfaction over seat sharing.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly has 234 seats and elections will be held on April 23, with results expected on May 4, 2026. BJP is contesting in alliance with AIADMK, with the latter contesting 169 seats and BJP allotted 27. PMK will contest 18 seats, while AMMK will contest 11. With DMK, AIADMK and Vijay’s TVK party in the race, a tough three-way contest is expected.
