Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has once again found himself in controversy. On Monday, at a government event held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Patna, the CM personally removed the hijab of a female AYUSH doctor while she was receiving her appointment papers. The incident, captured on video, quickly went viral on social media, and some attendees laughing on the stage further fueled criticism.
Opposition parties reacted strongly to the incident. The RJD criticized Nitish Kumar’s mental state, while the Congress described the act as unacceptable and demanded the CM’s immediate resignation. The event also raised serious questions about women’s safety in the state. A total of 1,283 AYUSH doctors, including practitioners of Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and Unani, received appointment letters at the event. They are to be appointed across various health institutions under AYUSH Medical Services and the National Health Mission. The incident has sparked intense political debate in Bihar.
