In a major political development, former Andhra Pradesh Minister and senior YSR Congress Party leader Jogi Ramesh has been arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at his residence in Ibrahimpatnam, NTR district.
Ramesh was allegedly linked to the illicit liquor manufacturing racket that was uncovered by the Andhra Pradesh police last month. The prime accused, Addepalli Janardhan Rao, had previously claimed that the operation was carried out under Ramesh’s instructions.
Early this morning, the SIT conducted an extensive raid at Jogi Ramesh’s residence, searching the premises for nearly two hours before detaining him along with his personal assistant Arepalli Ramu. Both have been taken into custody and will be presented before the magistrate for further proceedings.
The illicit liquor racket, which was unearthed in Mulakalacheruvu and Ibrahimpatnam, shocked the entire state with its scale. Several individuals have already been arrested in connection with the case.
Janardhan Rao reportedly provided the SIT with screenshots and other digital evidence suggesting Ramesh’s direct involvement. Despite this, Ramesh strongly denied all allegations and even offered to take a lie detector test to prove his innocence.
However, sources reveal that the SIT has gathered crucial evidence establishing Ramesh’s involvement as a key player in the high-profile liquor scandal.
