YSRCP leader and former Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy has received relief in the illegal liquor case. The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday granted bail to Bhaskar Reddy. The court also granted bail to Sajjala Sridhar Reddy and Venkatesh Naidu in the same case.
It may be recalled that the SIT arrested Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy in Bengaluru on June 17, alleging his involvement in a multi-thousand-crore liquor scam. Bhaskar Reddy had been lodged in jail for 226 days, and the High Court’s decision to grant bail has come as significant relief to him. However, in the same case, the Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed the bail petition filed by the prime accused, A1 Raj Kaseereddy, which is noteworthy.
According to the SIT’s charges, a portion of the money allegedly siphoned off from distilleries and liquor supply companies was handed over by prime accused Raj Kaseereddy to Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy. The prosecution further alleged that these funds were distributed to YSRCP candidates during the previous Assembly elections. In this case, the SIT described Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy as playing a key role in the offence and listed him as Accused No. 38 (A-38). His son, Mohith Reddy, was named as Accused No. 39 (A-39) in the charge sheet.
