Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president B Mahesh Kumar Goud assured BC leaders that priority would be given to them while selecting candidates for MLC seats under the Governor’s quota. He held an internal meeting with BC leaders and other Congress aspirants who were disappointed over not securing party tickets in the Graduate MLC elections at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday. Goud urged them not to be discouraged, assuring them of more opportunities in the future. He also called upon party leaders to work together for the victory of the two candidates contesting the Graduate MLC elections with Congress support.
The leaders urged the TPCC chief to ensure greater representation for BC communities that do not have representation in the State Cabinet and other key positions. They sought priority for communities and regions that have so far had little or no political representation and requested that all three Governor’s quota MLC seats be given to BCs. Goud reportedly assured them that at least two seats would be considered for BCs and said he would take up the demand for the third seat with the AICC. Meanwhile, TPCC OBC department chairman Veerlapalli Shankar announced a public meeting at Shamshabad on Sunday to demand caste-wise enumeration of OBCs in the national Census. Goud is also scheduled to travel to Delhi to attend the AICC meeting on the INDIA bloc’s proposed campaign over the SIR exercise.
