Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu made strong remarks regarding the electoral roll, stating that individuals whose names are not included in the voter list are, in his view, "as good as dead." He questioned whether people who are not registered as voters should be eligible to receive pensions or government welfare benefits, stressing the importance of being enrolled in the electoral roll.
The Speaker further said it is the responsibility of every citizen to verify that their name is included in the voter list. He also remarked that those who are unwilling to exercise their democratic right by voting once every five years should reflect on their responsibility towards society. His comments have sparked widespread political discussion and reactions.
