Officials conducted field inspections on Thursday following allegations that water from the Kondapochamma Sagar project was being diverted to former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s farmhouse. The inspections were led by Horticulture Deputy Director Suvarna. Irrigation Executive Engineer officials examined water being conveyed from the reservoir through borewell motors and pipelines to pumping stations across different zones. Congress leaders have alleged that a 58-acre pond, identified as Panduranga Cheruvu, was excavated near KCR’s farmhouse and that no such pond existed at the site before 2016. They claim that after its completion in 2017, water was diverted from Kondapochamma Sagar to fill the pond.
Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar recently alleged that water was being pumped from Panduranga Cheruvu through dedicated pipelines to a three-acre well at the farmhouse. He also claimed that ₹45.54 crore in public funds had been spent in the name of farmers to install drip irrigation systems under a 100% subsidy scheme, describing the matter as an alleged misuse of power. Officials had already begun surveying assigned lands associated with the farmhouse and are now examining the alleged water diversion on the ground. Further details may emerge after the inspections are completed.
