Ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the AIADMK has released its first phase of the election manifesto. The manifesto was officially unveiled by party leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), who stated that it has been drafted with a strong focus on public welfare and includes five key promises.
major emphasis of the manifesto is on women-centric welfare measures. The party has promised to provide a monthly financial assistance of ₹2,000, which will be directly credited into the bank accounts of women. AIADMK also announced that the existing free bus travel scheme for women will continue, while extending free travel in city buses to men as well. The manifesto also highlights rural development as a priority. It promises the purchase of land in rural areas to construct concrete houses for the poor. In addition, under the ‘Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme,’ the party has pledged to offer a subsidy of ₹25,000 for the purchase of motorcycles to 5 lakh women.
Another significant announcement pertains to employment generation. AIADMK has proposed increasing the number of workdays under the employment guarantee scheme from the current 100 days to 150 days. With the Assembly elections likely to be held in April or May, the manifesto has assumed considerable political importance. Palaniswami assured that these promises reflect the aspirations of the people and would be fully implemented if the party comes to power.
