Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar instructed officials to prepare godowns in advance for storing Custom Milled Rice (CMR) meant for the public distribution system.
During a review meeting held in his chamber at the Secretariat on Monday with representatives of the Rice Millers’ Association, the minister said that around 20 lakh tonnes of rice needs to be stored for the Civil Supplies Department and another 14 lakh tonnes for the Food Corporation of India (FCI) during this Kharif season.
He emphasized that all necessary godowns and storage facilities should be ready ahead of the procurement drive to avoid logistical problems during transportation and distribution.
The meeting was attended by Civil Supplies Secretary Saurabh Gaur, Rice Millers’ Association President Gummadi Venkateswara Rao, Secretary Suribabu, and other officials.
