Former MP Vijayasai Reddy said adulterated ghee had been supplied for preparing Tirumala laddu prasadam during the previous government’s tenure, but claimed that no animal fat was mixed into it. He stated that ghee was purchased at prices ranging from ₹320 to ₹419 per kilogram between 2019 and 2024. Questioning the quality of the ghee currently supplied to Tirumala at ₹658 per kilogram, he noted that the market price of pure ghee was around ₹1,000 per kilogram. Speaking to reporters in Tirupati on Thursday, he also criticised former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of adopting different political positions to appeal to different communities.
Vijayasai Reddy also spoke about water storage in Rayalaseema, stating that his party would take steps to store 1,000 TMC of water if it came to power. He proposed abolishing the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Board and giving representation to heads of religious institutions instead of politicians. He further proposed constructing a compound wall around Tirumala. He criticised the functioning of the state’s coalition government and commented on governance at the Centre, adding that religious conversions should not take place through inducements.
