Abhishek Banerjee strongly reacted after a massive fire destroyed several shops in West Bengal’s Khejuri area amid the tense post-election atmosphere in the state. Sharing visuals from the incident on social media platform X, the TMC leader alleged that “BJP-backed miscreants” were responsible for the destruction and accused them of attempting to disturb peace in Bengal.
Abhishek Banerjee claimed that more than 60 shops belonging to both Hindu and Muslim owners were destroyed in the fire, describing the incident as an attack on Bengal’s communal harmony and common people. He termed it the “real face of BJP politics” and demanded strict action against those responsible. However, preliminary police findings and local reports reportedly indicated that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Authorities stated that investigations into the incident are still underway. The fire incident comes amid heightened political tensions and allegations of post-poll violence following the BJP’s victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
