The names of 13 crore voters have been removed from the voters' list through the Voters' Special Comprehensive Amendment (SIR). However, economist Surjit Bhalla tried to clarify the question of how many of them are actually eligible voters. He has published the details in a blog. "In the states where the process has ended, only 70 lakh eligible voters could have been deleted without explanation," he said.
"There is a campaign that 13 crore voters have been eliminated in the states where Sir has ended. However, they are still in the draft stage deletions. That is, there is a proposal to delete the names of those voters from the records or not. They include legitimate causes such as deaths, relocations, duplication, etc. It also includes states where the final electoral rolls are yet to be published. Based on details such as population, official birth and death data, and registrations that took place before Sir, 70 lakh voters could have been deleted without explanation. Without explanation, it does not mean that every one of the 70 lakh people has been wrongly removed," Bhalla said.
