

Economists believe that the upcoming Union Budget 2026 – 27 should go beyond tax calculations and play a key role in shaping India’s technological future. During a recent pre-budget meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, experts strongly recommended providing focused policy support for emerging technologies such as data centres, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics. They emphasized that clear budgetary incentives are essential to drive growth in these sectors.
Amid rapidly changing global economic conditions, experts warned that relying solely on traditional IT outsourcing may not be sufficient. They stressed the need for India to shift towards high - value digital and knowledge-based services to safeguard the economy from global trade fluctuations. Highlighting the importance of data centres as the backbone of the digital economy, they noted that sectors like cloud computing, fintech, and e -commerce depend heavily on them. To boost capacity and investments, experts called for incentives such as tax benefits and land allocations in the upcoming budget.
