Dorothy, directed by Karthik Subbaraj and starring Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth in important roles, is preparing for its digital premiere. The film, which reached theatres on October 2, is scheduled to stream on Netflix from October 23. The platform announced the release date by sharing a promotional poster. Set in a rural part of Tamil Nadu during the 1990s, the film explores friendship, personal identity, social prejudice and the challenges faced by people living in a society shaped by rigid gender expectations.
The story follows Subbu (Sananth) and Karthi (Rishikanth), childhood friends who grow up with a reputation for fighting and behaving like local tough guys. As he grows older, Subbu begins to recognise his feminine identity but struggles to express himself openly because he fears humiliation and rejection in a male-dominated society. His relationship with Dorothy (Keerthy Suresh), who enters his family as his sister-in-law, becomes emotionally significant. When Dorothy unexpectedly dies, Subbu makes a life-changing decision that sets off a series of events affecting both friends. Their relationship eventually turns hostile, and family pressures lead to further conflict. The film explores how friendship, identity, grief and social expectations shape the characters’ lives.
