Actress Varalakshmi Sarathkumar made her directorial debut with the psychological thriller “Saraswathi”. The film stars Priyamani, Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh and Radhika Sarathkumar in key roles. It was released in theatres on March 6 and received a decent response, but it could not perform well at the box office.
Now, the movie has quietly arrived on OTT without any prior announcement. It is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. This gives a good chance for those who missed it in theatres to watch it at home.
The story of Saraswathi revolves around Lakshmi (Varalakshmi Sarathkumar), a single mother who works as a nurse in a private hospital. Her entire world is her daughter Saraswathi (Nivetha). On August 15, which is her daughter’s birthday, Lakshmi gives her a box of chocolates and drops her at school. But when she returns in the evening, her daughter is missing. When she questions the school staff, they say that no girl named Saraswathi exists in the class she mentioned. Even the police refuse to take her complaint.
Later that night, Lakshmi receives a phone call from her daughter, saying she is in the principal’s room along with two unknown men and that she is scared. When Lakshmi rushes there, she finds her daughter has been assaulted and killed. The same night, she buries her daughter’s body in a cremation ground and files a complaint with the police the next morning. However, CI Krishnareddy (Murali Sharma) insists on evidence before filing a case. When they dig at the place Lakshmi mentioned, the body is missing. With no proof, the police refuse to register the case. Left with no option, Lakshmi approaches the court, where lawyer Ramanujam (Prakash Raj) supports her. Did he succeed in proving the case without evidence? Who is Lakshmi really? What injustice did she face? Who committed the crime and why did the school management support them? What truths come out during the investigation and what roles do Priyamani and Kishore play? To know all this, one has to watch the movie.
