US President Donald Trump’s secret aircraft switch during his return from a NATO summit in Turkey is set to receive renewed attention through Netflix. On July 8, after attending the summit in Ankara, Trump was reportedly moved from Air Force One to another military aircraft due to security concerns. The operation was designed to make it appear that Trump was still travelling on Air Force One, while he was actually aboard a different aircraft. Reports at the time said the move followed warnings of a possible threat from Iran. Trump’s transfer was reportedly carried out in a catering truck, while only a small group of officials accompanied him. Other senior officials and members of the media remained on the decoy aircraft.
The military aircraft carrying Trump reportedly travelled to the Royal Air Force Mildenhall base in Britain, where he is said to have switched aircraft again before continuing to the US. The incident sparked widespread speculation and discussion on social media. Trump later said he was not afraid and had followed the advice of Secret Service and military officials, who considered the arrangement the safer option. Netflix will now revisit the episode in Instadocs: The Decoy Plane, featuring interviews with journalists who first reported the incident, along with White House, aviation and former Secret Service personnel. The documentary is scheduled to begin streaming on September 4.
