Rajkummar Rao’s National Award-Winning Film ‘Shahid’ Finally Arrives on OTT

Bollywood film ‘Shahid’, which was released in 2013 and received widespread critical acclaim, has finally made its OTT debut nearly 13 years after its theatrical release. Directed by Hansal Mehta and starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead role, the film is based on the real-life story of Mumbai-based human rights lawyer and activist Shahid Azmi. The film is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. However, it is currently available only in Hindi with English subtitles and does not have a Telugu version.

The film portrays the life and struggles of Shahid Azmi, who fought legal battles on behalf of several people arrested on terrorism-related charges. It highlights his efforts to provide justice to people who, according to the film’s narrative, were caught up in cases unjustly. Shahid Azmi was assassinated in 2010. Hansal Mehta adapted key events from his life to create the film, which went on to earn two major honours at the 61st National Film Awards. Hansal Mehta won the award for Best Director, while Rajkummar Rao was honoured with the Best Actor award for his performance.
