Mahendran, who earlier appeared as a child artist in several star hero films, later acted in Tamil movies including Master. As part of his journey to establish himself as a lead actor, he starred in Nilakanta. The film was released in theatres on the 2nd of this month. Due to the absence of big star names, it did not run for long in theatres. Now, Nilakanta will start streaming on Sun NXT from February 6 in both Telugu and Tamil languages.
The story is set in a village called Saraswatipuram. Raghavayya, the village head, is known for giving strict punishments to anyone who commits a mistake. Nilakanta, the son of a local tailor, makes a mistake while studying in the 10th standard. As punishment, he is ordered not to leave the village for 15 years. Because of this, Nilakanta is unable to continue higher studies. Though he becomes a kabaddi player, the restriction stops him from participating in higher-level tournaments. Meanwhile, he falls in love with Seetha, the daughter of the village sarpanch. Nilakanta challenges her father, saying he will defeat him and become the sarpanch before marrying Seetha. What happens in the end forms the rest of the story.
