The movie Idli Kottu, starring Dhanush and Nithya Menen, directed by Dhanush himself, was released on October 1. Dhanush plays a simple man who leaves his job for his personality and runs the family-owned Idli Kottu business inherited from his father. Set in a rural backdrop, the film created high expectations as Dhanush and Nithya Menen teamed up again after the successful Tiru. However, it failed to deliver the same level of entertainment.
Now, the movie is all set to entertain OTT audiences. From October 29, Idli Kottu will stream on Netflix, as confirmed by the platform’s poster release.
Story: Shiv Keshavulu (Rajkiran) is famous in his village for his Idli Kottu – the idlis he makes are loved for their taste and care. His son, Murali (Dhanush), a young ambitious man, wants to expand the family business as a franchise in other places to earn more. However, Shiv Keshavulu is strictly against selling idlis made by others under his name.
Murali, chasing a better life, leaves the village and moves to Bangkok. Immersed in work, he even neglects his family. In Bangkok, he becomes engaged to Meera (Shalini Pandey), the daughter of his business partner Vishnuvardhan (Satyaraj). Shortly before the wedding, his father Shiv Keshavulu passes away.
Will Murali return to see his father one last time? What happens to Idli Kottu after his father’s demise? And what is the relationship between Murali and Kalyani (Nithya Menen)? Does Murali go ahead with the marriage to Meera? These questions form the main story of the film.
