

The silent film Gandhi Talks, starring Vijay Sethupathi, Arvind Swami and Aditi Rao Hydari, is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Released in theatres on January 30, the movie impressed audiences with its unique concept. Directed by Kishor, the film stands out for having no dialogues, while A.R. Rahman’s music beautifully conveys the emotions. Though made in Tamil, the film can be enjoyed by everyone as it has no spoken language - only emotions, visuals and subtitles in English. The story of Gandhi Talks sensitively touches on social issues like the country's economic conditions, unemployment and corruption. It portrays how money influences and changes people’s lives. The film follows Mahadev Vishnu (played by Vijay Sethupathi), a poor young man living in Mumbai’s Dharavi. Despite being educated, he struggles to find a suitable job. When he applies for a position in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, officials demand a bribe of ₹50,000. At home, his mother is unwell, and he is deeply in love with a girl (Aditi Rao Hydari) whom he wishes to marry. To achieve his dreams and support his family, getting that job becomes very important to him. However, to secure it, he must pay the bribe. Desperate for money, he sets aside his moral values and decides to take a wrong path.Meanwhile, in Mumbai, Bosman (played by Arvind Swami) is one of the city’s biggest businessmen. But when his business faces huge losses, he suddenly finds himself in financial trouble. The story takes a turn when Mahadev Vishnu and Bosman’s paths cross. How money connects their lives and changes their destinies forms the core of this powerful and thought-provoking film.
