Dhanush’s Action Thriller Kara Heads to OTT

Several small and medium-budget films that recently released in theatres are steadily making their way to OTT platforms. This week, movies like Sati Leelavathi, Gaayapadda Simham, System, Love You Ra, 14, Rajugari Saval, Madhuvidhu, and TN 2026 have started streaming. Meanwhile, Tamil star Dhanush’s latest action thriller Kara is gearing up for an early digital release within a month of its theatrical debut. The film, directed by Vignesh Raja and starring Mamitha Baiju as the female lead, was released on the 30th of last month with moderate expectations but failed to make a strong impact at the box office. Despite a few engaging theft sequences, the overall narrative received a lukewarm response. The film will premiere on Netflix on May 28 in multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.

The story revolves around Karaswamy (Dhanush), a thief who decides to leave his criminal past behind after marrying Malli (Mamitha Baiju). Hoping to start a new life, he plans to open a hotel and approaches a bank by pledging his family land documents. However, unforeseen circumstances, including the loss of his father, push him back into a life of crime. He begins targeting branches of the same bank for thefts. What drives Kara to return to crime, and whether he ultimately gets caught by the police, forms the crux of the story.
