The film Champion, starring young actor Roshan, is all set for its OTT release. Netflix has officially announced that the movie will start streaming from January 29. Roshan, son of actor Srikanth, made his debut with this film, which released in theatres on December 25. Directed by Pradeep Advaitham and produced by Swapna Dutt after the success of films like Mahanati and Sita Ramam, the movie was made on a big budget but failed to impress audiences at the box office.
Champion will stream on Netflix in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. Made with a budget of around ₹45 crore, the film reportedly collected only about ₹17 crore in theatres. Anaswara Rajan played the female lead opposite Roshan, while Santosh Pratap, Avantika, Krithi Kanj Singh Rathore and Hyper Aadi appeared in key roles. Music composed by Mickey J Meyer stood out as one of the major highlights of the film.
Story in brief: Set during 1947–48, the story follows Michael, a bakery worker from Secunderabad who dreams of becoming a footballer and settling in England. When his chance to travel abroad is ruined due to his father’s mistake, Michael tries to reach England through illegal means. During this journey, he gets involved in transporting weapons and escapes from the police, landing in a village called Byronpally. There, he meets Chandrakala and becomes part of the villagers’ rebellion against Nizam’s rule. How this struggle changes Michael, his clash with police officer Babu Deshmukh and the sacrifice he makes for the villagers form the rest of the story.
