Ending months of anticipation among football fans, Zee Group has acquired the broadcasting rights for the FIFA World Cup in India. The tournament, jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, will be held from June 11 to July 19. Reports suggest that the deal was finalized for around ₹320 crore (approximately 35 million dollars).
With matches scheduled to begin after midnight according to Indian time, several major broadcasters reportedly stayed away from the bidding process. Zee Group stepped in and secured the rights, and will telecast the tournament through its four new sports channels. The matches will also be streamed digitally on its OTT platform, offering fans access across television and online platforms.
