Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that MILAN-2026 aims to enhance interoperability, cooperation, and friendly relations among participating navies across the world. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Samudrika Auditorium of the Eastern Naval Command headquarters in Visakhapatnam, he emphasized that climate change has intensified natural disasters, making humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations more frequent. He noted that no single navy, regardless of its strength, can independently tackle emerging maritime challenges, highlighting the importance of cooperation among global naval forces. India, he said, supports equal maritime opportunities and freedom of navigation in accordance with international laws and regulations.
The minister described MILAN-2026, conducted with participation from 74 countries, as the largest and most comprehensive edition so far, reflecting global trust in India as a responsible maritime partner. He stressed the need for joint efforts to counter maritime terrorism, illegal fishing, smuggling, and cyber threats. Rajnath Singh also held a special meeting with naval chiefs and representatives from nine Asian member nations, discussing strategic security issues in the Indo-Pacific region and encouraging partner countries to adopt India’s growing defence technological capabilities. Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi and Eastern Naval Command Chief Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla also attended the event.
