The Union Budget 2026–27 has brought significant relief to patients and consumers with key announcements on duty reductions. The government has reduced the prices of 17 types of cancer medicines by cutting import duties from 20 percent to 10 percent, while capping customs duty on cancer drug imports at 10 percent. This move is aimed at making life-saving medicines more affordable and improving access to critical cancer treatments across the country.
In addition, prices of mobile phones and electric vehicles are set to come down. The budget has abolished duties on batteries used in mobile phones and electric vehicles, along with exemptions on imported components. Customs duty on aircraft parts has also been removed, a step expected to support the aviation sector and reduce maintenance costs.
